There is a reason why Stephen King is one of the bestselling writers in the world, ever. Described in the Guardian as 'the most remarkable storyteller in modern American literature', Stephen King writes books that draw you in and are impossible to put down. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer's craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King's advice is grounded in the vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999 - and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

I take it as a sign when a book is recommended to me three times by three different people. A sign that this is a book I should read.
And so it was with On Writing. It is an easy read and it can inspire. While there are better, more beautiful books on both the how and why of writing (e.g., Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird, or Ursula K. Le Guin's Steering the Craft), the advantage of On Writing is its accessibility. It is easy to read, to understand, and to follow, especially for someone with English as a second language.
It is also inspiring, given that almost half the book is a memoir of King's own writing life. writing quite simply saved his life. In two ways. The financial success of his books originally saved him and his family from poverty. In the most powerful part of the book, King also describes how writing also saved his sanity after a near fatal accident.
The instructions given are clear and king's dedication to the writing life is inspiring. So what are you waiting for? Go writie
