These books will probably appeal to many teenagers looking to read a romantic novel with a black, mystic touch. The book is an undemanding read, with an ordinary small town high school, a stunningly beautiful heroin who is as doubting and insecure on the inside as any teenager, and a mysterious, beautiful boy, who turns out to have quite a lot in common with Edward from the Twilight series, only that he is more ordinary and therefore more sympathetic - but also less intriguing. The character of the vilain has its unconvincing touches, but he is evil enough, and seductively beautiful. The occult plays its part, but more important are universal teenage problems. Peer pressure, popularity rankings, difficulties with parents, insecurities in love matters; the main characters are not spared a thing. Love, friendship, courage and perseverance are the qualities with which the difficulties are overcome.
In general, these books did not surprise or fascinate me, but they form an agreeable way to spend rainy Sunday afternoons.
