This book will tell you everything you need to know about statistics that there is to know. Of course, not every subject is completely covered for 100%. But after reading the more than 900 pages, you will fully master statistics and will be capable to do much of the data analysis yourself. I am a PhD researcher at a medical center in the Netherlands and work a lot with biostatistics. Before I went berserk on my databases, SPSS statistics from IBM is an easier way to get familiair with the basics of statistics. When you have large databases (over 10.000 cases) and you want more advanced function and graphical designs, R (or S-plus, similar to R) is the program you need.
Before I started with R, I had mastered most of the SPSS Statistics package but had no history of programming of any kind. This book from prof. Field helped me a lot to find my way in R. It starts easy, and for those who have no statistical knowledge, the first few chapters are at a decent understandable level. I recommend this book for everybody who wants to get started in R or want to learn statistics with the use of R. By far the easiest understandable and lightly written book for statistics on the market. 5/5
